PRAYER FOR RELIGIOUS VOCATIONS

Heavenly Father, your loving providence accompanies us on our life’s journey. Thank you for your many gifts to us. We ask that you continue to call sons and daughters from our families and parishes to serve as priests, deacons, and consecrated men and women. Send your Spirit upon us so that many will respond with great love to your call to service in your Church. Give to those you have chosen the faith of the apostle, the vision of the prophet, and the courage of the martyr. Help us to be faithful disciples of your Son by following the example of Mary. Make us generous in sharing ourselves and our talents for the sake of your Kingdom on earth. We ask this through Christ your Son.

Amen.

CRS ANNOUNCES "CALLED TO WITNESS 2008"

Called to Witness is an overseas program co-sponsored by Catholic Relief Services (CRS) and the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry (NFCYM). It is designed to provide a short-term, firsthand experience of the developing world for adults serving and working in Catholic youth ministry. Through Called to Witness, CRS provides youth ministry professionals and volunteers with an opportunity to enhance their ministry to young people and strengthen their ability to promote global justice in the Catholic educational community.

Called to Witness participants visit a variety of CRS project sites and begin to build solidarity with our brothers and sisters overseas – all within a spiritual context, reflecting on Catholic social teaching, specifically teachings on global solidarity. Effort is made to emphasize CRS’ work that aids young people, as well as providing an opportunity to interact with staff and partners in the host country. The Called to Witness experience does not aim to be a direct service program, but rather an opportunity for meeting people, developing relationships with them, learning about CRS programs and gathering information.

The 2008 Called to Witness trip will take place approximately April 13-27, 2008. This timeframe includes a 2-day orientation in Baltimore, and travel to Nigeria. The trip will give particular attention to the situation of poverty, HIV/AIDS, food security and programs developed in Nigeria to provide integral protection in areas of human mobility, education, child participation, emergency relief and solidarity-based livelihoods. Special focus will be given to church partnerships within the country in the effort to foster relationships rooted in solidarity.

For more information, contact Ted Miles, 410.951.7475, tmiles@crs.org, or visit the CRS Called To Witness website to download an application.
